Great article in the Washington Post a few days ago. As sort of a Kantian experiment, Joshua Bell, the internationally renowned violinist, played for 45 minutes in a crowded metro station to see what would happen. The event was covered with a hidden video camera. Observe the results.
The article asks the question:
If we can't take the time out of our lives to stay a moment and listen to one of the best musicians on Earth play some of the best music ever written; if the surge of modern life so overpowers us that we are deaf and blind to something like that -- then what else are we missing?
It's a good question.
The piece is flawed, and you can tell exactly where it's going, but it's worth a look and a listen.
